The Saturday halfHoliday.
On Saturday last, during the sale at Mr Alfred Harrison's auction yards, a large body of farmers and others discussed the 1 advisableness of protesting against the proposed compulsory closing of places of business on Saturday afternoon, which would necessitate ihe loss of Saturday as the market day. After the matter had been freely talked over the following resolution was submitted:—"That this meeting is of opinion that great incon venience and loss would be inflicted upon the farmers and others resident in this district should Saturday as market day be abolished, and trusts that some other day may be appointed upon which the half holiday may be held." Upon this being put to the meeting the whole of those present, about 20Q, voted for it, not a single hand being held up against it. Mr Harrison was then asked to forward particulars of the meeting to the local papers, and also to the Government through Mr E. [G. Wright the member for the district.
