THE RACING CRISIS

At a meeting of the Committee of the AshburtOD Racing Club, held on Saturday evening, the following resolutions were carried, copies of which the Secretary was instructed to send to all the Racing Clubs in the South Island and ask thtem to appoint delegates to attend a conference to be held at Ashburton on July 5 next to discuss the matter:— Resolution.—l hat the Ashburton Racing Club considers that the time has arrived to form an association of country clubs, and that all bonajkle country clubs throughout the South Island be asked by circular to join and generally help forward the Associaj tion for the following reasons :— I.—That it is desirable that New Zealand racing should be governed by a representative body, or bodies, and not as at present by an unrepresentative one. 2,—-Thit Country Club 3 should be represented at Conferences held for the purpose of framing rules and considering matters connected with the welfare of racing in !New Zealand generally. 3.—That under th« present ruling the very existence of some of our oldest and best country clubs, whose meetings largely assist to maintain the sport, is seriously jeopardised, and a continuation *of this undesirable state of affairs will have the effect of encouraging proprietary clubs. 4.—That the Country Clubs b^iDg associated would be in a,.-better position to further the interests of racing in general.
