THE Board of Governors of the Ashburton High School offer SIX SCHOLARSHIPS for Public Competition open to all School Children resident in the County of Ashburton, except those in attendance at a High School. The scholarships are tenable for two years and during good conduct, and will entitle the holders to free education and the use of books at the Ashburton High School for that period. In apportioning the Scholarships it is the Board's intention to grant three of the Scholarships to boys and an equal number to girls. Two Scholarships— one for a boy and one for a girl—will bo granted to pupils from Schools in the Ashburton Borough; two, similarly distributed, to pupils from the Schools within the Hanipstead District; and two in like manner to pupils from, other Schools within the County. Candidates must be not more than fourteen years of age on the Ist of June next. The subjects for examination will be English Grammar and Composition, English History, Geography, and Arithmetic. The standard of excellence re-, quired -will be equal to that possessed by. pupils of the Eifth a^d Si^th Standards in the Primary Schools. The Examination will tike place on THURSDAY and FRIDAY, May 25 and. 26 next.
