PRESENTATION TO MISS DOHERTY.

At the conclusion of the distribution of prizes, Mr Knox the Chairman of the Comnuttee, in a few well chosen remarks presented Miss Doherty, who had recently left the Greenstreet school to take charge of the Ashburton forks School, with a very handsome demi-hunting gold watch, as a token of the esteem in which #he was held, both by parents and by scholars. The watch, which was from the establishment of Mr S. Sal jk, lore a s ait all; inscription very tastefully executed. In responding on behalf of Miss Doherty, Mr Bowler the headmaster, thanked the district for the handsome manner in which they had reognited her services. That they had been willing services he had had ample proof, for they had been together as fellow teachers for some years, and the classes left by Miss Doherty were in excellent condition. He was quite certain that the Ashburton Forks district would be well satisfied with their teacher, and only hoped that it would be his fortune to be always assisted by one so industrious and painstaking. The meeting concluded with votes of thanks to Mrs Bland, Mrs Nicholas, Miss Doherty and Mr Bowler for special prizes ; to the Chairman, to Mr Knox as Chairman of Committee, and to Mr Bowler for his interest in the children and for the recitations he had had prepared by them for that afternoon.
