At the R.M. Court, two proprietors of s dressmaking establishment were fined one shilling and eight shillings costs, for a breach of the Factories in not giving their girls a half-holiday on Saturday. Defendants alleged they had eiven their assistants a whole holiday on Wednesday, and the girls were willing to work on Saturday.

New Plymouth, December 7. A black whale was stranded yesterday morning on the beach about ten miles south of New Plymouth. It is sixty feet long. : .

The Government have under consideration a scheme of more complete amalgamation of the Justice and Native Departments than the partial combination which w«w effected whenMrCadman took the portfolio of Justice. The details will probably be settled when Mr Jadman returns from the south.

The pen of ten Lincoln ram hoggets exhibited at Wellington A. and P. Show by Mr H. McHardy, Hawke's Bay, and Which was awarded the first prize, has been Bold to North Island breeders for 400 guineas. The fleeces taken from the animah were of unusual weight, turning the scales at from 291bs to 341bs each. Three Lincoln rams exhibited at the Show by Mr W. Wilson, of Whenuakura, have been disposed of, and brought £30 to £35 each. __ .

Timahu, December 7. Tho Tiraaru Harbor Board have accepted the tender of Lobnitz and Co., Renfrew, for a combined grab and suction hopper dredge and twin screw tug, at £15,550, delivered at Timaru, and have authorised the sale of the paddle tug Mana. _______^___
