A merchant steamer is conveying marines from the war ships to town. Placards have been posted m Nankin, accusing Christians of gross crimes. • A plot has been discovered to seize the arsenal at Foochow. Foreigners m Foochow are alarmed for their,safety. Hokg Kong, September 24. The Chinese Government have informed France that steps are being taken to protect foreigners, and a fleet is being despatched to the disturbed prorinces. Hope is expressed that France ■ will await the result of the efforts to restore order.
