THE CANADIAN CENSUS.
Ottawa. August 27. The census shows that Canada has not succeeded in retaining its natural increase of population. There has been an exodus of a million people to the United States; Sir R. Cartwright asserts that the excessive taxation is partly the cause. Ottawa, August 28;' ■ The Canadians are irritated at the lowness of the census returns, and allege that the Government are responsible for the negligent collection. THE CANADIAN SCANDALS. Several of the chief officers of the Government printing office who have been called on to give evidence have absconded. Damaging testimony has been adduced in their absence.
