DESTRUCTIVE FOREST FIRES.
Athens, August 4. A destructive fire has been raging over the Peninsula. Mount Athos forests have been devastated, and the monasteries and hermitages for which the mount has long been celebrated are all destroyed. Twenty monks and hermits have lost their lives, and the damage is estimated at a million pounds.
