A liorcra’ Quarrel. Auckland, October 1. A lovers’ dispute caused much amusement at the Police Court to-day. Jno. Sissons was charged with horsewhipping Edw-rd Spencer on Sunday evening last. It was shown that the parties were rivals for the affections of a young lady recently from Wellington, who was formerly a barmaid. She had been brought up to Auckland by Spencer with a view to marriage, but Sissons “ out him out,” and enforced hia claim with a horsewhip. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to pay a fine and costs amounting to £3 18s and bound over to keep the peace. Fire la Wclllngtoa Wellington, October 1. A coach factory and blacksmiths shop belonging to R. Somerville, coach pro prietor were destroyed by fire at 4 o’clock this morning. The cause of the fire is unknown. Eighteen buggies, traps, etc., were lost The building was insured for £2OO In the South British, and the ttock for £6OO in the Phoenix. The Cavalry Encampment, Captain Coleman.
