Proctor won easily by two lengths. Time, 3inins. Barley. Melbourne, Yesterday. Malting barley is strong at 5s 2d to 5s 4d ; wheat (shipping) has declined to 6s lod, but the market is firmer. New Zealand are firm at 4s to 4s 3d for feeding; and at 4s 4'i to 4s 3d for milling sorts. The Prose 1 Meat Failures. Melbourne, To-day. At a meeting of the Frozen Meat Company, the chairman in his speech referred to recent failures in shipments to England, and slated that he attributed the faulty condition of the meat to the presence of mildew and dry rot in the refrigerating chambers.
