It is from the Hokitika Star : “ Wharf street is one, of those thoroughfares which should be avoided until .the forenoon, as whoever has the temerity to go there earlier is in danger of becoming a prey to the legion of starved oats which infest the whole neighborhood. On Friday morning, it was with the utmost difficulty a passer-by escaped a. feline invasion, as cats—great and small—fairly chased him out of the street.”
