AUSTRALIAN SUMMARY.
(Per Wdkatipu at Wellington.) [by telegraph. ] Sydney, Jan. 22. Owing to the difficulty of procuring news relating to the proceedings of the Conference, the Sydney Morning Herald publishes a strong complaint this morning, and says it seems curious that the representatives of the Melbourne press gain information of the proceedings of the Conference which is sternly denied to the Sydney press. A monster meeting of miners was held at Temora yesterday about the water supply. Several inflammatory speeches were made, and it was advocated that the dam be taken by force. Melbourne, Jan. 22. A bush fire betwwen Windermere and Smythesdale destroyed ten thousand pounds worth of property. Four Collingwood larrikins have been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for assaulting a Chinaman. Edward Barnes employed at. the Parliament Library, has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for indecency. Detective Ward denies that the man Hart, who was arrested at Echuca, is a brother of Steve Hart.
