The working of the Mills bids fair to promote a good feeling in the minds of the natives; but protection, either by a Native Contingent, or the removal of the disaffected natives, who are few in number, is required to enable the Flax Companies to work successfully. The great importance of providing for the carry- -ing on of such useful industries as here named, amongst the Native race; and thereby cementing a peaceful relationship between them and Europeans, is so manifest that I feel assured it is only necessary to mention the above facts, to induce you to give your most earnest attention to this matter.
