Ngamotu 22 March 1852 Friend, McLean, Greetings. I have great affection for you, and [although] your body is at Port Nicholson your soul is at Ngamotu. I have this to say to you. The decision concerning me lies with you and for all the aspects of it. Listen, I have something to tell you. Years have passed in which you could have announced your return here, and I have thought of you while you are far away from us. I am the only one here, all my children have died, not one survives. And that's why I thought of you, so that you might give me some assistance. You are acquainted with what I wrote to Captain King and Halse so they would be informed too, however it is for you to set right that matter. We are living well indeed and in peace.
