Sir, In acknowledging the receipt of your letter of the 24 ultimo enclosing a Copy of Mr. Protector McLeans report of his visit to the Island of Waiheke. I have it in command from the Governor to acquaint you that His Excellency highly approves the arrangement concluded by that Gentleman and the successful conduct of this affair regarding which there has been so much discussion and negociation. I am further to return to you herewith approved by His Excellency in this Instance the bill for travelling and native allowances for the above officer amounting to £6.10.6. I have at the same time to inform you that an amended scale of travelling expences is under consideration and that the hitherto authorized and established sum of 7/6 per diem will not be granted in future.
