Translation. We, the Chiefs and People of Ngatiapa, whose names are attached to this paper, have received from Mr. McLean, the sum of Five Hundred Pounds (£500) of money, being the amount of the second payment in instalment due to us for all the lands which we truly consented to give up, or part with, as stated in the original Deed of Sale, to which we subscribed our names and marks at our large Public Meetings held at Whanganui on the fifteenth (15th) and Sixteenth (16th.) days of May in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty Nine (1849.) That is the paper or Deed specifying all the principal conditions and arrangements for the payment, the Reserves containing also our solemn consent to give up our land to Mr. McLean for the Governor of this Island of New Zealand, as a sure and certain land to Victoria, the Queen of England, and the Kings and Queens who may succeed her, for ever and ever. And having duly received, as above stated, the second instalment into our hands on this day on the Tenth of the days of July in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty (1850) we hereunto write down our names and Sacred Maries in the presence of this present assembly.
