terrace gaol site, sought for" a school: In view of the fact that the Government contemplates the removal of tho Terrace Gaol, the Education Board decided, at its meeting this afternoon, to make tho initial move in an effort to secure portion of the gaol site for th« erection of a large school to replace the presout Te Aro School.' ' ■ Mr. W. Allan moved as follows :— "That, in determining the uses to which, the area known as the Terrace Gaol sit© shall be devoted on removal of the gaoL the Government be requested to reserve a sufficient area for a large city school to replace Te Aro School.' Mr. Allan said that they were given to understand that within a limited period The Terrace site would bo abandoned for gaol purposes. The Willisstreet School had been built in what was now a very congested district, and the school area was small, while there was a considerable element of danger from the fact that the school was almost flush with a street through which ran. a double line of tram-rails. The Terrace Gaol site seemed to him to be an admirable one for a school, and an early application might cause the Department to have portion of the site, which was some six or seven acres in extent, reserved for school purposes. Ho did not suggest that they should' demolish tho Willis-street school, which was in excellent order, but they could probably sell tho site, with the school, tor such a sum as would erect a new school oft the gaol site. The motion, which was seconded by Mr. Hogg, was carried.
