The match, was the finest doubles game ever witnessed m; Sydney;' ;;.The first two sets were tenaciously contest^ ed by the Americans, while the third set was sturdily fought, although the Australians had the best of it. ; The weather was fine, and the sun warm. The court was m splendid condition. There were about 4000 spectators. The home team won the toss. r Early m the game it was seen the Americans were m better form than m the game on Saturday. Brookes and Wilding did not appear to, bevaSrifit assin-their previous display. The' New "Zealanders smashing was weak, and his:driving had not its usual sting. The Ameri-cans-excelled m, smashes,* especially McLoughlin. The home players won their points by their experience,,..rather than by being more brilliant than the Americans; their combined play'was a revelation. It took 22 games to decide the. first- set, the teams winning alternately till it was 10: all. Then Australasia captured the next' two fames, amid great excitement. The Ist game was a love one to the home X>layers, off Brookes' service. In the last game the Americans led by 40-15; but Aiistralasia drew level, and then McLoughlin served a double fault. The set lasted 42 minutes. The second set was just as vigorously contested, and; each side won its service till the scores were 7 all. Then Wilding won his service, while McLoughlin failed with his, the set end* ing 9-7, after lasting 38 minutes. In the third sot Australasia scored 3-loye, before the.
