After going a furlong Tyrorie took up tke nwoiug, and was followed

by Invictus, Carlton, Mephisto, and Exmoor, with Harpenden, Silver, and Arundel next, while Sailor Prince was last of all except Altborp. So they ran till passing the Birdcage, where Carlton took the cotnmaud, and rose the hill, attended by Tyrone, Silver, M*lton, and St. Mirin, with Harpenden and Arundel next, while The Sailor Prince began to make up lost ground. At the Red Post Silver was sent to the front, and came on from Tyrone, Melton, St. Mirin, and Carlton, The Sailor Prince now heading the others. Before reaching the rails Silver retired, as did Me phihto and Exmoor, and C«rlton went to the front, followed by St. Mirin and Melton, with The Sailor Prince now lying fourth. The last-named quickly improved his position, and before reaching the distance passed Melton. Carlton wa9 in trouble two hundred yards from home, and the race was left to St. | Mirin and The Sailor Prince, a most exciting struggle ending in favour of the latter by a head ; Carlton was a bad third about six lengths behind and clear of Melton, who was fourth. After going a furlong, the leader was passed by Phil and Agnostic, but at the Bushes this pair retired, and Enterprise came on from Florentine and R«ve dOr, with Freedom next. Before the Dip was reached Florentine was in trouble, but at the same time Reve dOr took a clear lead, and Enterprise decidedly cut it. The outsider drew away and won easily by three lengths ; a like distance separated Enterprise and Freedom, while close to thttlatter came Florentine fourth. Time, lmin 35sec.
