' The flag fell to a good start at the first attempt, Greenbank being first away, slightly in front of Ben Alder, with Belinda and Titterstone nexj and King Monmouth last. When they had fairly settled down, Ben Alder and Greenbank, 4ide by eide*, cut out the work alternately from Belinda and Selby, with King Monmouth last. Going through tho furzes no change took place in this order, except that King Monmonth dropped further in the rear. At the mile post ©reenbank and Ben Alder held a slight lead of Selby, with Titterstono fourth and Belinda fifth. . Passing tke rifle butts Selby took a feeler with the leaders, and Belinda took fourth place. Half a mile from home Selby oame on from Ben AM«f and Greenbimk, with Belinda et-ill nest 1 .

When fairly in the straight for home Selby increased his lead and Belinda took second J place, but failed to reach Selby, who won cleverly by a length ; three lengths botween second and third. Atter one very slight break away, the lot were sent on the exciting contest to a splendid start. St. Miriu was first away, with a slight lead of Exmoor, Coracle, and Lord " Lumley, holding an advantage of the favourite, and St. Michael last. After going a furlong, Exmoor went to the front, and Coracle took second place, with St. Mirin third, Lord Lumley just clear of Ormonde, with Easington last. Going out of sight Coracle assumed thecommand, with Exmoor at his heels, Lord Lumley and Ormonde, side by side, being close up. Coming "through the Furzes Exmoor again took up the running from Coracle, and Ormonde joined theleadere, with St. Mirin next, Easington and Lord Lumley being clear of St. Michael, last. Reaching the hill, Exmoor still showed the way to Coracle, with Ormonde lying close up, third, and Easington next, Lord Lumley having dropped back last. At the mile Coracle improved the" pace, coming 'on clear of Exmoor and Ormonde, St. Mirin and Easington, side by "side, and Lord Lumley, who showed signs of befng beaten, still last. Passing the Red House, Coracle was still show* i lg the way from Exmoor, and hi 9 stable companion, O.monde— St. Mirin and St. 'Michael, some distance off, being in advance, of Easington, and Lord Luraley, beaten off, last. Sweep* ing round the bend Coracle still retained the command, but when in almost a line for home Coracle had' to give way to Ormonde, -who was followed by Exmoor, St. Mirin having" taken third place. Half a mile from home Ormonde increased his lead, and when half-way up the straight St.. Mirin took second place, followed by Exmoor, and at the distance the trio came right away, Ormonde, full of running, increasing his lead, and opposite the stand was a gooa three lengths in., advance, and, with" his pilot sitting as quiet as if in an armchair,' the favourite, amidst loud Bhouts, sailed 'home',the easiest of" winners by four lengths; Exmoor being a bad third ; then came St. Michael, three lengths off, fourth, Coracle fifth', with Easingtpn next, and • Lord Lumley last. After a cansiderable delay at the post,- and several breaks away had been effected, the- flag fell to a very fair start, aud the first to show in • front was Brighton, on the rails, but after going a couple of hundred yards Modwena, next the rails, took up the running, her immediate attendants br.ing Laceman, Braw Lass, Harmattan, and Crafton next, on the outside, with Brighten now in the centre. In this order-they ran until reaching the bend, where Braw Lass lost her position, and Modwena still in advance came on with a clear lead of Harmattan, Laceman, and Brighton at the same time closing up with them, Crafton was in difficulties at the distance. Lace man was the first to crack, when Brighton then wont on, and took second place. Inside the distance the three placed signalled themselves out, and although Stechford closed up on the third that caught the " judge's eye," Modwena held her own to the end, aud ultimately won cleverly, if not easily, by a length and a-half. Harmattan was next, three lengths off, third . Stechford, close up, was fourth, Cydonia .fifth, Laceman sixth, Ordovix seventh, Linda' eighth, Morella ninth, Craftou tenth, Orange Blqssom and Dulcimer next, with Enigma colt last. Passing the rifle butts, no change in the previous order occurred, but reaching the bead Argo Navis came on from Counterfeit and Day Dream, with Miss Jummy next. Entering the Btraight, Counterfeit dropped back beaten, Day Dream and Miss Jummy joining the leader. About a furlong from home Miss Jummy took tip the running, and although Argo Navis made a resolute challenge opposite the stand, she aouldnever get on equal terms with the favourite, who won a good race by a neck; bad third. In this order they disappeared over the bill, but on reappearing Stone Clink had increased her lead to six lengths, Easington had taken second place, with The Bard still last. No change in this order took place until well past the Red House. Here the four competitors drew in close order, and when fairly in the straight The Bard assumed the command, aud without the slightest effort sailed home the easiest of winners by four lengths ; bad third.
