MOCK AIR ATTACK

SUCCESSFUL EXERCISE FRENCHMEN OVER ENGLAND LIAISON OF SERVICES (Received August 18, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 17 Two hundred French bombers made a mock air attack on the south and centre of England last night, states a report from the French Air Ministry. All the machines returned. The exercise lasted between seven and eight hours. A number of bombers "bombarded" Liverpool according .to plan and returned to the French coast. The French Air Ministry states that the manoeuvres were a contribution to the air co-operation of England and Franco, which daily becomes closer and more efficacious. The English and French detector services worked in perfect liaison and obtained most interesting results. The raids were not as spectacular as last week's Royal Air Force raids, the Frenchmen almost without exception being intercepted or engaged; or, if battle was not given, they were spotted by the ground organisations.

> DANZIG PROBLEM FEELING IN BRITAIN PROFESSOR'S STATEMENT STOCKHOLM, Aug. 12 The Swedish newspaper, Aftonbladet, publishes an interview with Professor Harry Riley, professor of inorganic and physical chemistry at King's College, Xewcastle-on-Tvne. "In Britain," ho states, "we are by no means convinced of the vital necessity of Danzig for Poland. This opinion is even shared by members of the British Government. "I am leading an economic mission of 10 experts to inquire whether Danzig is essential to Poland's economic life. The mission has been undertaken under Government inspiration. I am convinced that the results of our inquiries will have the greatest influence on the future of both Britain and Danzig. The Foreign Office denies that the mission is official. The Times states: "Rumours emanating from potentially hostile sources that there is a responsible movement among industrialists in this country for a general conference on the status of Danzig, from which Russia would be excluded, may be discounted at once." GOOD PROGRESS MOSCOW NEGOTIATIONS LONDON, Aug. 17 Tlie military conversations between Britain, France and Russia are proceeding quickly and well, says the Moscow correspondent of the Times, It is hoped that the last steps toward a political agreement will soon be taken.
