DANZIG ARRESTS EXPLOSIVES FOUNDOPPONENTS OF NAZIS UNDERGROUND PARTY By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received July 14, 11.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 14 Seventy men were arrested in Danzig in lightning raids and house searches by Free City police, in which arms and explosives are reported to have been discovered, according to the Warsaw correspondent of the Daily Telegraph. Most of the men are members of the Social "Democrat Party, which the Nazis recently dissolved and made illegal. The arrests caused a sensation in Warsaw, as revealing the existence of extensive underground opposition to the Nazi regime among German Danzigers. It is unofficially reported that Danzig lias been told to continue preparations and that a positive development may shortly be expected. A message from Danzig says the Senate apologised for the Danzig secret police arresting the Brazilian Charge d'Affairea in Poland and tho Consul in Gydnia for taking photographs while sightseeing in the city. They were bundled into the police van and detained for two hours. Their cameras were confiscated.
The Daily Telegraph says that a military and economic agreement between Britain and Poland is imminent, under which Britain and France respectively would provide £5,000,000 and £3,500,000 for a fund to strengthen Polish finances and enable her to maintain her army in a state of mobilisation. Britain, in addition, will provide a credit of £8,000,000 to purchase war and raw materials.
