DAMAGE TO THE ROCKS ROAD.

PORTION OF THE WALL WASHED AWAY. A big sea got up last night, the waves Breaking over the Rocks Road on to the footpath and roadway. A wash-out occurred in the wall near the end of the chains, and coping, chains, and footpath have disappeared for a distance of some yard.!. During the gale the sea dashing against the rocks at the port was a magnificent spectacle. The effect in the darkness and storm was weirdly grand. It is learnt that about 50 feet of the Rocks Road wall has been washed away The City Surveyor put on a gang of men this morning to dump sandbags into the gap to prevent the breach widening
