THE HOP GARDENS.
It was feared that last night's storm would play havoc in the hop gardens, but from what can be gathered there fortunately appears to have been little damage. In some of the fields slight loss has been sustained by the hop vines getting blown down, but it is not expected that there will be any heavy individual losses as a result of the storm. Hop growers have experienced a good deal of bad weather since picking commenced, and unless there is a good run of fine days it is feared a portion of the crop will become overripe before the whole of the hops can be gathered.
