TELEPHONE CONNECTION WITH HAVELOCK.

FIRST MESSAGE TO BLENHEIM

Telephonic communication with Blenheim and Picton has been installed at Havelock. The first message to Blenheim came through to-day. It was put through by our Havelock correspondent, being received at the " Express " office, and is as follows: — " The Labor Department has just advised local authorities that Thursday, from March 31st, shall be the weekly half-holiday in Havelock." The connection is via Mahakipawa and Picton, and considering the circuitous nature of the route, the message reached us with wonderful distinctness.
