To the Editor of the Hawke's Bay Herald. Sir, — Requiring medical advice on last Sunday evening, I rode to Waipukurau to consult Dr. English, who 'resides there at the Accommodation House. On my arrival I asked for a feed for my horse, and while engaged with the animal, a man came up, who I afterwards found to be Aveson, the proprietor, and told me I should not get a bed, &c. After relieving himself of what was intended to annoy me, in the shape of abuse, he went into the house, from whence he returned with a bundle of of newspapers — the "Accommodation" is a receiving Post House also — and threw them on the ground, saying "there are your papers/ About half an hour afterwards, Dr. English asked me if I had received a letter which was addressed to me, and, on my replying in the negative, he kindly procured it from Aveson. The reason assigned for this strange conduct was, that " I had found fault on my last visit." This is very likely. I have been altogether about five times at Aveson 's, three of which I could not get any food for myself and my nag, and the day alluded to was obliged to stand in the rain to prevent my horse's corn from being devoured by hungry fowls.. My chief reason in addressing this letter to you is in the hope that, by its publicity, other travellers may receive better entertainment, for I am not likely to again trouble "mine host" of Waipukarau. Sir, — With your permission, I claim a small space in your paper to enquire from our Provincial Go\ eminent what is the reason that Ciown Grants are not being prepared for the Governor's signature, for all the Lands that have been purchased in this District from the several Commissioners of Crown Lands by the settlers, as I am credibly informed that the mere receipt given by the Commissioners is no legal title to the land purchased, to a considerable extent in this District, some in Wellington from Mr. Commissioner Bell, and here from Mr.. Commissioner Domett, both at private and public sale, as fur buck as June 1855 ; also, since, from Messrs. Commissioners Fox and Tiifen. It is surely time, with all the professions made by the Provincial Government, to do good for us, that they got our Crown Grants prepared for the Governor's signature, without furtherdelay.
