BROTHER AND SISTER
DROWNED

A brother and sister lost their lives in a drowning accident in the Buller River near Murchison on Saturday afternoon. They were William Thomas Borkin, single, aged 37, shop assistant at Murchison, and Dulcie Veronica Borkin, 18, clerk, Murchison. Together with Lyall Mcßride the Borkins went for a swim in the river and at a fairly large swimming hole. After a few minutes the girl was noticed to be out of her depth. McBride went to her asistance but when she struggled he himself got into difficulties. Borkin went to help them but Mcßride had let the girl go. She disappeared. Mcßride managed to gain the bank in an exhausted condition. Borkin himself then disappeared. Both bodies have been recovered.
