TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I a«k the courtesy of your widelyread and impartial columns, to brlnpt under public notice the. urgent need for an effective distribution of official war photographs. As it seems to me, very few people know* these photographs arc in existence. In a little room at tho back of the Dominion Museum there are some/ 1500 negatives of war photographs on the Of beihg cohsigned to oblivion. Your space is.much too valuable to refer in detail to such an impeding educational blunder. Personally I have only recently met with success in obtaining* at a- very cheap rate, through application to the •Under-Socretary of Internal Affairs, a number of supplementary lantern slides required only for public education. Official war photographs should bo placed within reach of all ex-service men or tho sorrowing relatives of our dead, now Tying beneath the blue skies of the Orient or tho green fields of France and Belgiuhi. The darkness -which.' civilisation feels profoundly to-day, cbtfld be milch reduced ih density if, fully knowing the misery and horrors of wars, we_ were to rearrange bur social and economic systems in order to combat the general ignorance of mankind upon which wat-s are. founded. No thoughtful boy; in gazing upon a picture. of PasBchendivele horrors, or a- -photograph of "The Diggers" silently marching in column of y route across the Rhine and past the_ giant statue of the ex-Kaiser—sym-bolically leading Germany westwardcould fail to receive very useful thoughts. In all our public places there should bo a quiet notice stating where and how these historic photographs can be obtained. Every Territorial officer anxious to transmit tho growing fame of the Silent DiviMon to tho future citizens of God's Ojvn Country,' should have; a lanterh set of war photographs. Above- and beyond all else, returned soldiers, born again to a sense- of real values, life itself, arid racial freedom could do much with the help of these photographs in clubs, barracks, schools, to stimulate the patriotism and tho heroism of our citizens to be.—l am. etc., .
