THE 'ART OF TRAVELLING.
Every year the art of travelling is brought near perfection, especially by experienced women who cross the ocean continually, and to whom a voyage around the world is ot no more importance 4han a trip to Sydney; is to the ordinary Melbourne woman. A girl who has done some very long journeys of this sort was recently staying in Melbourne (says an exchange), and she astonished her friends by the eas© with which she packed and unpacked her belongings, and the little space they occupied. All her underclothes were of soft washing silk, which is not nearly so expensive as it sounds, and even if the outlay is at first a Jittle more that a set of lawn and longcloth garments would cost, it is well worth it, for the different articles pack very tightly, and the washing and ironing are comparatively simple, since silk washes easily, and can be ironed quite dry while it is wet. For evening wear she had two good firm silk slips as foundations for three or four essentially different soft overdresses of uncrushable substances, such as ninon and marquisette, and some blouses, one cream and one navy blue skirt, a coat and skirt, and a couple of muslins completed the outfit so far. Girls who are well used to travelling say they never take more boots ana shoes than they actually require, for they can bo bought almost anywhero when they arc wanted. The new nickelplated flat iron, which is heated from the inside with methylated spirits, is a boon to travellers, as also to those who live in boardinghouses, for it can be made hot sdfe-ly, and in a few minutes, and so the creases in skirts or sleevss can be quickly ironed out.
