SIR JOSEPH WARD ENTERTAINED.

(Br Telegraph.—Press Assoiaciation.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Sir Joseph Ward was entertained at a banquet in the Town Hall last night, on the eve of his departure to the Postal Congress at Rome. Over 200 guests were present, and the Mayor presided. The health of the guest was honoured with gre»t enthusiasm. In replying, Sir Joseph dealt with th-a statistics of tne Postal and Railway Departments, pointing out the immense advantages which had accrued to the public by the concessions granted by the present Government. Continuing, the Minister said the work that one could do at the Postal Congress would, he trusted, not be finally measured by its application to postal reform alone. Our great little country occupies a strong position in many respects, aud the opportunity that will be afforded him of placing these qualities before those assembled in Rome will be taken advantage of. The Premier responded to the toast of the Parliament of New Zealand.
