DEATH OF THE VICTIM.
Ter Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, June 25. Mr J. Y. Daly, the victim of the midnight quarrel on Wednesday, died at the hospital at 10 o'clock last night, without having regained consciousness,
The two accused, who had been liberated on bail when charged with assault, were re-arrested early this morning on a charge of manslaughter. The post mortem is being performed this afternoon, and the inquest will be held tomorrow morning. Daly was a member of the Canterbury Rowing Club, and held the championship of the colony as a single sculler, and was one of the New Zealand team which visited Australia some years ago. He was also well known m athletic circles. Henry Harris Divers, who is said to have struck the blow which proved fatal, is an assistant steward on the Rotomahana, and the other accused, Thomas James Trounsen, is a working jeweller m Christchurch. Both are quite young men.
