BUTTER FAT PRODUCTION. Press A ssocialion. WELLINGTON, May 21. At the Industries Committee inquiry, Mr W. M. Singleton, Assistant Director of the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture, said that at the end of the last census there were 793,215 cows for the 191617 season. He estimated the average vield at 161.81b of butter fat, as against 142.11b in 1910-11, an increase of 19.71b, which represented an increased export value of £1,276,000, besides an increase in the by-products. Witness stressed the value of the special purpose cow, which tended to follow an increase in land values. Mr D. Cuddie, of the Agricultural Department, spoke of the manufacture of casein. The manufacture, in his opinion, might be fostered by. making it free to anybody.
