HOLD-UP HREATENED.
CHRISTCHURCH TRAMWAYMEN. AND PEACE CELEBRATIONS. Unless the Christchurch Tramway Board accedes to a demand from the Tramway Employees' Union, no trams will be run in the city and its suburbs during ! the Peace Celebrations. The union asked the board that all its employees should receive concessions, similar to those which the Tramways Committee of the Wellington City Council has decided to grant to its employees in connection with the Peace Celebrations. In Wellington, a full tram service is to be run on the three days of the celebrations, and the men are to be paid at time and a half rates for that, and to have three days added to their annual holidays. The Christchurch Board, however, has replied to the union's request that the wages of all men recruired to -work on the Monday and Tuesday will be doubled, and that the permanent way and other men not required to work on those days will be fiven those days as holidays* on full pay. That reply was considered by large meetings of the Tramwaymen's Union yesterday afternoon. The men decided to again request the board to grant tl\e Wellington terms, and to refrain from working the cars during the celebrations if the board remains obdurate. That decision was unanimous.
