TO-DAY'S CASES. Mr S. E. McCarthy, 8.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court to-day. Drunkenness.—For a second offence of drunkenness Frederick Babbit was fiiied 20/-, in default seven days' imprisonment. Theft of Bicycles.—William Innis, aged 19, admitted the theft of a bicycle on January. 24, the property of Wilfred Woof, from the Christchurch railway station. , It was stated that the accused had been convicted of a similar offence by the Juvenile Court two years ago. Accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. He agreed to remain in charge of the Salvation Army authorities. . ;.;. Ernest Lionel Archer pleaded guilty to a charge of the theft of a bicycle on June 29, 1918, valued at £B, the property of E. Lawrence. For the accused, Mr J. A. Cassidy admitted that a previous conviction for the theft of a bicycle existed, but otherwise he was a hardworking man. It was stated that the bicycle had been sold to a man named Warren at Belfast. The accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called 1 upon, and to report to the probation officer at Wellington once a week for 12 months. He was further ordered to attended technical classes and to pay witnesses' expenses, £7 6/3, repairs to the bicycle £l, and refund the amount for which he had sold the bicycle, £2, by instalments of £1 a week. 111-treating a Horse.—A lengthy denial to a charge of ill-treating a horse on May 14 in Colombo Street was made by Arthur Bonis. A constable stated that the defendant had kicked the animal several times. The defendant was convicted and fined £2, and ordered to pay costs. An Expensive Ride.—Arthur "Vincent pleaded not guilty to a charge of being drunk whilst in charge of a horse and trap on May 7. William McNab, a tramway motorman, said that Vincent was galloping the horse., Constable McClelland said he visited the defendant's house in Bichmond immediately after the alleged offence was committed. The defendant was then lying drunk behind the house. In evidence, the defendant said that he worked at night and was liable to dose. off. He was merely asleep when the constable called as stated. The Magistrate (to the defendant): The evidence shows yon were verv drunk. This is a bad, case." The defendant was convicted and fined £lO and costs. Neglected Grubbing.—A fine of £lO and £2 'A/- costs was imposed against Ernest A.
