LATE MR G. H. BLACKWELL.

The funeral of the late Mr G. H. Blackwell took place at Kaiapoi yeslerday, and was an impressive public tribute to the work of the deceased gentleman. The desire to join in this tribute appeared to be universal. Business was praetieally suspended in the. town, and flags were flown at half-mast or. many buildings. The cortege was led by members ofjthe Kaiapoi Brass Band and the Fire Brigade, under Superintendent Mealings, and there was a lapge attendance of Oddfellows and members of temperance societies. A large number of citizens of Christchurch, who had been associated with the late Mr Blackwell in public service or in private business, also attended. The chief mourners included Mr Blackwell's sons and brother, Mr T. G. Blackwell, and Mr E. Evans. The pallbearers were Messrs T. R. Leithead, H. A'Court, A. Blackwell, L. Evans/ 11. Wright, and H.H. Farrar.

At the Methodist church, the service was conducted by the Revs. P. W. Fairdough, W. A. Sinclair, W. J. Williams, S. Lawry, and W. Lee, the last-named giving a brief address referring to Mr Blackwell's conduct . as a citizen. At the grave, the Revs. 11. B, Bellhouse, P. W. Fairclough, and A. Mitchell officiated. Wreaths were sent by the. family, the Board of directors of the Kaiapoi Woollen Company, staff of the woollen mills, 'the Kaipoi Company's Christchurch, warehouse staff, Kaiapoi Company's Auckland staff, Kaiapoi Company's Wellington staff, Kaiapoi Methodist Church choir, Methodist Sunday School, employees of the Kaiapoi Store, New Zealand Warehousemen's Association, Kaiapoi Park Committee, members of the Kaiapoi No-license League Council, directors of the Kaiapoi Shipping Company, employees of the Shipping Company, members of the Canterbury Prohibition Council, Kaiapoi Division Sons and Daughters of Temperance, Hinemoa Hockey Club, Kaiapoi Cricket Club, Kaiapoi Bowling Club, staff of the Kaiapoi Branch Bank of New Zealand, staff of the Canterbury Prohibition Council, Kaiapoi Football Club, Mr and Mrs and Dr and Mrs A'Court, Mr and Mrs T. Leithead, Miss Page, Mr Caverhill and Mr Modlin, Mr F. Woods, Mrs Burgess, Mr and Mrs Andrew Fairbairn, Mr Featherstone, Misses Cissy and Ethel Evans, Mr and Mrs K. S. England and 'family, Mrs Sherratt, Mrs Bain, and family, Mrs Hill, Mr and Mrs J. H. Barnard, Mrs Tonrell; Mrs Rutledge, Mr and Mrs T. Burgiu, and Mr and Mrs H. W. Farrer.
