COUNTRY NEWS.
(From Our Special Correspondents.) WAIAU. On Wednesday afternoon the many friends of Miss E. Derrett assembled at the Manse, where a kitchen tea was held in honour of her approaching marriage. Miss Derrett was tlie fecipient of many useful articles, all connected with the "work of the kitchen. Mr W. Shaw, on behalf of the Waiau Band of Hope, presented her with a silver teapot in recognition of her long and faithful service in training the children for the various entertainments. The recipient briefly thanked the givers for their kindness and good wishes. A most successful hare drive was held on Wednesday on tlie properties of Messrs 11. T. Beaven and McKie. The day's sport was for the benefit of the Poor of Great/Britain Fund, and about eighty hares and rabbits were accounted for. Luncheon was kindly provided by Messrs 11. T. Bea;ven and H. Lunn, and Mr Duncan ; Rutherford provided a motor van to take the spoil without delay to the rail head at Culverden. The! game will be frozen and sent Home.
