COUNTY COUNCILS.

OXFORD. Tlio Oxford County Council met on Tuesday, there being preseiit: Messrs 11. Campbell (chairman), A. Baxter, H. T. Cooper, .1. Cross, A. Myers, ,J. McCormack, and J. Wells. The chairman moved a vote of sympathy with Mr Cross in his late bewhich was carried, all the members-.standing. The clerk was instructed to issue notices for clearing gorse from roads. Notice was received from the Paparua County Council of a meeting to be held on 30th inst., re forming a Canterbury Branch of the New Zealand Counties' Association. Messrs Cooper and Wells were appointed delegates. It was resolved to put in and willow and wire protection at,the Burnt Hill ford, on condition that the parties interested undertake in writing not to hold the Council liable in the event of the river breaking through. It was resolved, on the motion of -Mr Cooper, that the necessary proceedings be taken to constitute a town riding, the original Cooper's Creek subdivision to be the boundary. It was decided to enquire as to the approximate date of opening the new post office, and to invite the Postmas-ter-General to open it in person. . The following tenders were accepted: For Contract 32,. 11. Askew, at 2/3 per cubic vard, and for Contract 33, H. Askew," at 2/- per cubic yard. Accounts amounting to £316 18/- were passed for payment.
