SUMNER NOTES.

TAYLO&'S MISTAKE HUTS. At the last meeting of the Sumner Borough Council, the question of the huts at Taylor's Mistake was again considered. The town clerk reported that very few of the holders of the huts had paid the annual fee for the year 1913-14, besides which huts were being erected without any application to the council for a permit to do so. Owing to the frequent sale of huts and other circumstances the addresses of the owners were difficult to get. Councillors expressed the opinion that it was absolutely necessary that proper control of Taylor's Mistake should be enforced, both in the interests of the huts them* selves and of the visiting public. After discussion it was unanimously decided that a notice to demolish the unauthorised huts be attached to the buildings, in default of compliance with the bylaws after fourteen days. It was stated that there were about 55 huts now at the Mistake. The owners of the huts which were built on council property paid no rates, yet most of them were evading the payment of £1 per annum, the fee which the council imposed. Members of the council mentioned that it*, would be distinctly to the benefit of the hut holders and the public if they would pay the amount charged, when a good proportion of the amount could be utilised in the direction of providing a better track to the Bay and otherwise improving the locality generally. /
