SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
ST. ALBANS. A meeting of the St. Albans School Committee was held on Monday evening, when there were present :• —Mr Ei H. Andrews (chairman), Mrs Stewart, and Messrs H. Hobbs, J. H. Colville, Fletcher, M'Farlane, F. Cole, and A. Hassall.
The headmaster's report showed a roll number of 732, and an average attendance of 670. A satisfactory report was reqeived from the inspector. It was decided to apply to the Education Board for two slow-combustion stoves for experimental purposes as a means of heating, and for desks And a cupboard for a recent addition to the school premises. ' Mrs Stewart and Mr Hassall were appointed a visiting committee for the. month, and also, with Mr Cole, to be the committee's delegates to the Schools' , Committees' Association. Leave of absence -was granted to the chairman, who- is making a holiday trip to Australia, and Mr Hobbs .was appointed . deputy-chairman. Messrs Colville and Hobbs -were deputed to cohfer with the school staff on. the matter of fostering an interest in football amongst the senior scholars.
