CHAMPIONSHIP CONTESTS. • Press Association. DUNEDIN, June. 2. The tug-of-war championship was advanced a further Btage to-night in the presence of a big attendance. Two of the light-weight teams, Enfield and Nightcaps, rather unexpectedly defeated heavier teams in Dunedin Police and Hornibrook's (Christchurch). The following are results:— , . A SECTION. Hoffman Bros, beat Otakou Maoris. Nightcaps beat Dunedin Police. Springhills beat Port Citizens. Enfield beat Hornibrook's (Christchurch), Taieri beat Waterside Workers No. 1. Telegraph No. 1 beat Stevenson and Cook No. 1: Inch Valley beat Invereargill Sailing Club. B SECTION. Gore won by default against Telegraph No. 2. Bevan's West Coast team beat Speight'* No. 1.
