SPECIAL POLICE REUNION.
COLONEL CHAFFEY HONOURED. Several hundred members of the special foot police force, which did service at Lyttelton during the recent strike, gathered in the Chamber of. Commerce Hall last evening, to do honour to their late commander, Colonel Chaffey. Major Loach presided, and proposed the toast of the guest of the evening. After referring in terms of high praise to his services as commander, Major Loach presented Colonel Chaffey with a piece of silver plate, as a token of respect from his men. Colonel Chaffey suitably replied. Other toasts were:—"The Guests," proposed by Mr Watkins, responded to by Colonel Chaffey and Mr J. Williams; "Lyttelton Sports," Mr V. Rogers; "The Ladies," Mr S. G. Morton. A musical programme was contributed to by Q.M.S. Heald, Messrs Vincent, Charters, Lawrence, Woods, Webb, Johnson, Seed, and others.
