HILL'S CREEK.

Novembbb 11.— The farmers have just finished rolling their paddocks of both wheit and oats, both of which would no doubt have been a failure owing to the exceptionally dry spring, if rain had not fallen on .the evening of the 6th. and 7th, doing a great amount of good. Mining.— This industry has been in a very sluggish state in this locality for some time past, owing to the scarcity of water, a drawback which the last rains will partially obviate. The Laud Question.— Another petition has been signed and despatched to Wellington on this subject. We should like to know why the Minister of Lands is so peisistent in locking up the lands against settlement. We received a very lame excuse for our last petition net being granted. This petition, No 2, en,tirely answers the objections, and the settlers arc very anxious about the fate of this one. Should it receive the same treatment as the first one, other and more effective means will have to be adopted.
