WAIHOLA GORGE. (from our own correspondent.)

August lGfcb. The fine weather bat tmddealy taken wings and given place to cold, boisterous days and colder nights. Ploughing is more advanced this year than is generally the case, and a considerable quantity of land is sown. It is not very often that the land is in a fit state' for sowing so early in the season. The present weather will be rather hard on the young lambs, a considerable number of which have put in an appearance of lato. The three lime-kilns are burning night and day, but there iB nofc nearly such a demand for lims now as there was when times were hotter and the bnilriing trade brisker. There is an endless supply of first-class limestone fit for lime-making in this district, so that in time to come we may ckim that industry as an important one in our midst. Mr F. G. Johnstone, of Milton, has a wry large singing class in the school. He gives lessons on tbe Tonic Sol-fa system every Thursday evening. The new Bchool was opened without ceremony a month ago. It is very comfortable and well fitted up, but unliko other new schools being built, it haa not been furnished with cupboard?. The Board has laid down very Btringent rules relating to the custody and care of school records and appliances, but it must be a difficult matter to oarry out these rales when no place ha 3 been provided to keep the said records. But we must not grumble : the Board has given the old buildings to the Committee to go towards improvement of the grounds and school buildings.
