MORE COMPULSION
CALL ON VEHICLES REPAIRS PENDING USE OWNERS TO BE LIABLE A further development in the procedure for impressing motor vehicles is made in amending regulations which have just been published. These give the authorities a considerable measure of control over vehicles under a ''notice of intention to impress" for a period of not more than six months. All reasonable assistance and information are to be given to officers who inspect vehicles to ascertain their condition and suitability for impressment. Upon service of a notice of intention to impress a vehicle, it is to be the duty of the registered owner and also of any person in whose possession the vehicle may be, and who has knowledge of the notice, to keep the vehicle in good running repair in all respects for six months or until a warrant of impressment has been i served, whichever is the earlier. To I this end all necessary repairs, maintenance and replacements must be carried out. "so far as reasonably possible. having regard to the availability of parts required for replacement purposes." Exemption from this requirement may, however, fie granted on the I ground ol undue hardship. Disposition of a motor vehicle by sale or otherwise after the issue of a notice respecting it is not prohibited, but certain requirements have to be met. A notice of intention to impress may bo revoked at any time, and the service of such a notice is not to give rise to any claim for payment, compensation or damages, or any other claim not expressly provided for in the regulations.
