AUCKLAND CENTRE MEETING SUGGESTION FROM HAWKE'S BAY Remits to be considered at the annual conference of centres affiliated with tin- New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, which will take place iu Wellington next week-end. were discussed by the Auckland Centre at its meeting last night. A suggestion by the llawke's Bay Centre, that male competitors in swimming events be. permitted io wear bathing shorts, as under the rules of the Amateur Swimming Association (England), was not fully supported, and il whs decided that the Auckland delegates should be empowered to act upon their own discretion. However, the wearing of shorts for water polo was supported by the cent re.
It was agreed to support a remit by the Bay of Plenty Centre that at the New Zealand intermediate and junior championships meeting points for the War Memorial Shield should be awarded by the same system as for the senior championship trophy, Yaldhurst Shield, namely, five points for first, three for second and one for third. A further Buy of Plenty recommendation, that all centre championship races should be started with a gun. was approved. The addition of breaststroke and backstroke races to tho schedule of school championship events was advocated by the South Canterbury Centre, and it was decided to support this view.
The centre decided that Dr. T. H Pettit and Messrs. W. Elwarih and TT. Johnston should be recommended to the conference for the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association's blazer.
