The Palis correspondent of the Times savs French newspapers are perturbed about the latest German military manual. This reminds officers of the Reichswehr that the latter is the successor to the old armv, and that therefore it is their duty to reconquer Germany's lost provinces. The French papers say the manual has been published since the Locarno Conference when Germany resigned her claims to Alsace and Lorraine. The Government complained to the German Foreign Minister, Herr Streserrann. who replied that the manual had been issued without the knowledge of the Cabinet, which had ordered its immediate suppression. The newspaper Pertinax now asserts that the manual caa still be obtained at bookshops in Berlin. The correspondent expresses the opinion that Herr Stresemann is honestly working for peace, but finds it difficult to persuade his subordinates to execute his orders. The Berlin correspondent of the Times says the manual has not been withdrawn, but that the copies which are available to the public do not contain the exhortation of which the French papers complained. It j does, however, include a highly-coloured summary of the Treaty of Versailles and the attitude of the Allies in that connection. The manual says the delivery of 14.QC0.0G0 Germans to the domination of France, Poland, Belgium, Denmark, Italy i and Czecho-Slovakia is an unexampled I transgression against Germany which con- | tains the seed of fresh wars. It asserts i that the Allies have acted contrary to the late President Woodrow Wilson's 14 points, upon which Germany agreed to ; peace. The manual adds that the French thirst tor revenge, the Russian craving for conquest and English business interests were the sols causes of the Great War. DISARMAMENT ISSUE. ; THE CONTROL COMMITTEE. It is expected that General Walsh, president of the Allied Control Committee, will shortly make a tour of inspection to ascertain the exact position.
