FRENCH MILITARISM.
; NEW GOVERNMENT SCHEME. ORGANISATION OF FORCES. A. and N.Z. PARIS. N..v. 12. .The French Government proposes to introduce a measure with the following objects i—(1) To reduce the period of compulsory military service to one year. (2) To increase the number of professional soldiers. | (3) To charge civil and military ! agents with the maintenance of internal order. (4) To provide for the formation of a mobile force of Republican Guards. It is expected that these proposals will result in the building up of a powerful military organisation which ? will enable the whole of the nation's resources to be utilised in an emergency.
