AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. " • ANNUAL MEETING OPENED. SOME REMARKABLE SCORING. Ideal weather conditions prevailed yesterday when the 40th annual and Exhibition meeting of the Auckland. Bifle Association, which is to be continued to-day to-mor-row, was commenced at the Penrose Rifle Range. It is doubtful whether there has ever been such a representative gathering of marksmen oft the range, and it was stated that there were present men who constituted the very best.of New Zealand rifle shots. That the meeting is no ordinary one is evident from the fact that the number of'entries total 231, which is nearly twice as many as have been recorded at any-previous meeting of the association. Last year there were 120 entries. The prize-money has been increased for this special Exhibition meeting to £700, which is divided into J about 600 prizes. .-'•■'■ •.. ~. / ~.,,-.; .:>"- ;. . Such a thins is a rare occurrence, and is evidence of the great nerve and muscle of the shooter. Farley's performance was almost equalled by H. Loveday (Ohura), with 20 consecutive bulls at the same distance. A feature of the match was that the Loveday family between them registered a sequence of 39 '■ bulls," the other membersL. Loveday CWoodville), and the father, G. Loveday (Ohnra)—obtaining 13 and 6 respectively* Other marksmen to obtain the possible at the 800 yds ranee were: P. Bolton (Opaki and J.
