THE LABOUR MARKET.
REPORT ON AUCKLAND TRADES. [BI TELEGRAPH.--SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.}
Wellington, Tuesday. The December issue of the Labour Journal contains the following reference to labour market in Auckland:—lt is pleasing to report that trade generally is improving slightly. The building trades are fairly busy. There are a large number of buildings in progress. Bricklaying is fair. Carpentry and joinery are fairly busy. Painting, and plumbing are fairly busy. In; plastering and stonemasonry there is no change from last month.
■ . The woodworking trades are fairly busy. Bdxmaking is very busy, preparing for' the Christmas season. Sawmilling is in a normal condition. The mills are working fullhanded. The furniture tr&te is rather quiet. Coopering is normal. In the engineering trades, agricultural implement-making is still very quiet, with no change to report. In the boilermaking there is a slight improvement upon last month's report. Brass and copper smithing are normal. Electrical engineering is still slack. Engineering and fitting has received a check during the last month. Iron and brass moulding are still slack, with no change from last month. Range and stove making show normal trade ruling.
In tho leather trades bootmaking (factories) is fairly busy, working full time and full handed. . Bootmaking (repair shops) is normal. Saddlery and harness making is fairly busy. Tanning and currying are fairly busy* ' Fellmongering is very busy. •
