The public service entrance examination is at present being held in Hokitika. In all about 21 candidates are bcinsj pwnej#d> J» otit hem % , ±rom * the local Higti'J^oyl. We fecV sure the young students will keep HOKI--tika's examination record up to what it has been in the past. The s.s. Pacro, as previously stated, went on a fishing expedition on Thursday last. The vessel had the misfortune to break some of the trawling -ear, with the result that there was no catch. We. understand that on Suuday she is woingr out on a short pleasure trip. This will be a grand opportunity for some of us to try our hands at ilejl sea fishing. Air. T. Brit, Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr. G. Malanson, member , ot" the Westland Land Board, Mr. T. MeFjirlane, Grown Lands Banger, and r. C. ;F. Dalgleish, Stock Inspector, left k on Thursday* night on. Un official visit * to South Westland. Mr. Malanson was \£ tM.-ompau.ied by his daughter, and the jiarty will go as far as the cascade it the weather permits.
